Martin Parr's photographs at first glance seem exaggerated and grotesque. His images are unique showing unusual perspectives and garnish colours. Parr relates to his images as 'Propaganda' as he uses his own chosen weapons, criticism, seduction and humour within his images. Parr's photos come across as understandable, accessible and highly entertaining. In addition to this the photos also represent everyday life, what people love, how we act and how we present ourselves within society.
A lot of Parr's work is based upon leisure, consumption and communication. Parr claims to research and examine national characteristics and international phenomena to find out how valid they are as symbols. Parr does this research in order to explain to future generations the cultures of the times giving them a visual experience.
Parr publishes the same photos in the creation of extensive series as art photography in art books as well as in the related fields of advertising and journalism.
