The Blackpool Tower Circus history - further research




- First opened to the public on the 14th May 1894 and since has never missed a season 

-  Been around for 120years 

- The Circus is based at the bottom of The Tower between it's four legs 


- Animals have not been shown in the circus since 1990 


- Frank Matcham the famous theatre designer designed the circus and it was completed in 1900. 


- For each era of the circus there has been a clown and currently it is Mooky. 


- The circus ring can hold up to 42,000 gallons of water when flooded.


- Sporting events are also held in the circus such as boxing, wrestling and snooker. 


- The circus is one of only two purpose-built circus venues in the country still employed in their original role, and the longest serving.


Beneath the arena, the cages once used to pen wild animals are still in place due to the buildings listed status. 

- The circus remains highly traditional

- The circus includes death defying stunts from top class acts all over the world, Mooky and Mr.Boo deliver belly-laughsjaw-dropping stunts to the public all year round.
